M Train
A probably ~20 yo Asian guy was playing with a Rubik’s cube app on his iPhone. He was one of the Asian guys who is pretty good looking but seems like they’ve never thought about whether they might be good looking or not. I watched him play with the Rubik’s cube but that couldn’t be the case.
At Marcy, a man, ~45 yo, got on the train.
“Form a line please. Don’t all rush me at once.”
I ignored him. He kept talking, saying something about Puerto Rico. Then I looked again and saw that he was selling actual Rubik’s cubes in plastic containers for a dollar. People were buying them, more than I would expect.
“Thank you for helping me put food on my table,” he kept saying.
I looked at the Asian kid. He was still playing the Rubik’s cube app game. He didn’t seem to notice the Puerto Rican man. The Puerto Rican man was selling his way down the train, getting closer and closer to the Asian kid and me, but he was taking his time. I read some more of my book and looked up. The Puerto Rican man had just passed the Asian kid and he had his iPhone turned over on his lap.
